born in london, layton performs texts to experimental music under the name stories In colour, often working with analogue machines to achieve primitive, atmospheric soundscapes. he was involved in setting up berlin dienstbar (1999) the tonband orkester projekt (2001) freies radio für berlin kampagne (2003) and has hosted an open stage night at the berlin art pub to showcase new writers (2007). he worked as events organiser at ECC, berlin weissensee (2011) and performed several live dates with cristóbal schmal of art nomono.
he spent 2012/13 performing his set domestic warfare live with saxophonist florian constantinides, and later together with singer bianca guitton.
